Sustainable tree planting

SUSTAINABLE TREE PLANTING WITH THE UWR SYSTEM

Challenges and solutions for urban and roadside trees can be addressed with the UWR System. It is almost only the imagination that sets the limits for the flexibility of the UWR System, and this illustration shows an integrated approach with climate/stormwater protection and irrigation of urban trees, all within the same system from UWR.

Road water is directed to and into the tree planting hole while also providing protection against stormwater and roots through conduit traces. The idea and development stem from a close and long-standing collaboration between various stakeholders in urban green climate protection.

The UWR System, when used in combination with Urban trees and Rain gardens, can solve a wide range of issues:

  • Road water for trees is directed to the planting group through a filtration system.
  • Prevents tree roots from growing into utility trenches.
  • Direct water supply to trees through permeable surfaces.
  • The tree can later be relocated to a new location – as if in a “container.”
  • The UWR System is integrated under rain gardens so that water does not seep out to surrounding buildings and into basements.

  • Establishment of various substrates and growth media that can easily be replaced, cleaned, or removed.
  • Storage of larger water reservoirs without the tree standing in water.
  • Filtration of road water with different growth media and substrates.
  • Control of water distribution.
